Is anyone else staring to notice a theme here? I love this location. Maybe I’m just a sucker for large bodies of water and sunsets, but I love shooting down here by the water. It puts me at peace and relaxes me. I love waiting out the light until it’s low enough to get the photos that I’m looking for. In the mean time, I get to sit and watch the sunset and listen to the waves lap against the rocks in 30 degree weather. Yep, winter has arrived and it’s only the beginning of December. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the photos.

You’ve gotta love sailboats at sunset. I saw these guys coming in while I was unpacking my equipment and knew that this was going to be a good day for shooting.

You might recognize these posts from some earlier images. It’s such a nice location. The tide was further out than last time I was here which exposed several more pilings. I like.

This is probably my favorite image if the day. The lighting. composition, and colors really came together in my opinion.

As the light started fading further, I switched to my 50 f/1.4 to get some sweet shallow DoF shots of this chain link fence.

Thanks for looking!

Great shots Zach!
The image quality that comes out of those 50mm f/1.4 lenses is amazing…even my 50mm f/1.8 produces great shots…..I wish zoom lenses could hit that same level of quality that the prime lenses seem to produce so easily.

The pictures were awsome! Your eyes see things the average person dosen’t see until you point it out with your camara. Keep up the GREAT work. Sherman
Thanks a lot, Todd. Yeah, the 50 1.8 is a great piece of equipment as well. It’s almost right up there with the 1.4 in most respects. With the 1.4, you get more aperture blades, an extra 1/3rd of a stop, and silent focusing. Otherwise, the optics are nearly identical. The design hasn’t changed since the 70s or 80s, so it’s no wonder that you’re getting nice images with it. In the end, however, it’s all a trade-off though, isn’t it? You sacrifice convenience for image quality when you go prime. And the opposite is true for using zooms. Congratulations on graduating and all too, man! I’ll be home on the 23rd for Christmas. We should get together sometime. It’d be great to see you, Christine, Amy, and Zim.
Thank you so much, Sherman. That means a lot coming from you. Can’t wait to see you guys at the end of the month.
